About Colorado County

The natural beauty of Colorado County has captured the eye and imagination of poets, artists and explorers for centuries; therefore it was no surprise when Texas Monthly Magazine identified Columbus as one of the Best SmaLL Towns for Art.  Highlights include 1886 Stafford Opera House featuring monthly dinner theater performed by professional troupes from Austin and Deer Park.

One of the oldest counties in the state of Texas, and dating to the Republic of Texas (1837) Colorado County was named for the 900 mile Colorado River that runs through it.  The Colorado River is the largest river that both begins and ends within the borders of the state of Texas.  Adventurous souls may consider traversing the river by canoe or even by riverboat.

Columbus is located in the heart of Bluebonnet Country and is home to the Bluebonnet, Indian Paintbrushj, Indian Blankets and hundreds of species of the Sunflower.  Roads and interstates (I10 which connects Houston and SanAntonio) have ideal scenic photo opportunities.  www.columbustexas.org.

The Texas Crossroads Business Park is a 200-acre master planned business park strategically located in Columbus, Texas at the intersection of Interstate 10 and State Highway 71.  The Park offers easy access to all of Central Texas and the Southwest with geographic, economic and quality of life benefits.

The Columbus Community Industrial Development Corporation in partnership with the Blinn College Small Business Development Center offers business planning expertise and assistance.

In 2007 the Texas Department of Agriculture honored Columbus as one of 10 rural communites selected to receive a Hardworking Rural Community Award.  www.texasyes.org
